The Cote d’Or has over 500 different appellations, and many more growers. Traditionally much of the crop was sold to negociant houses that blended wines to produce a ‘house’ style. Today more domains are bottling their own wines, giving a greater chance for the expression of terroir from individual sites. Indeed a humble appellation from a good grower is often superior to a Grand Cru from a poor producer.
