The longest river in France, the Loire extends to 668 miles. It rises in the Massif Central in south central France, and it is not until it has flowed half its distance that the first vineyards appear. These are at Sancerre and Pouilly-sur-Loire; then comes Touraine, Anjou, and Saumur; and finally the Pays Nantais, the home of Muscadet.
